Had a really rough week, but I guess some good came out of it. Too bad most of them didn’t come from this selection.
Man, I totally felt for Miyuu when she discovered the truth behind her friend…in that she was dead all along, just as the show confirmed a few episodes ago. Kinda pointless really. Oh, and now the murderous kid who says he can’t be charged because he’s a minor (I know that’s true in Japan, but I’m pretty sure he pushes that policy too far) is now in jail. Um…yay?
Seriously, I still don’t know what’s going on, nor do I know why I’m supposed to care.
8. Izetta The Last Witch
This is one very boring and uninspired war story, with all the magic mumbo-jumbo being nothing more than flavorless spice.
7. Bungo Stray Dogs
I can’t tell if I don’t like this show because it’s badly executed or I don’t like it because it’s just not my thing.
4. Haikyuu!! 3
3. March Comes Like a Lion
This show isn’t bad. It’s just so goddamn boring most of the time. Because of the way Shaft is adapting this anime with its “one-chapter for eleven minutes with no chapter skipped” format, whether I care or not about what happens in this show depends on what chapter we’re at in the manga, and it should be a given that I don’t find the slice-of-life ones funny or endearing. The one we got in this week’s first half didn’t even have anything to do with the second half where Kyouko comes back, so why couldn’t it have been cut out entirely? And speaking of her coming back, the drama revolving around Kyouko is a little too over-the-top for my taste at the moment. I get what the show is going for with it, but there’s a difference between sibling hatred with a theatrical flair and coming across like an unsuccessful James Bond villain.
2. Yuri on Ice!!
This show is watchable enough. It’s just not my thing.
1. Sound! Euphonium 2
Asuka’s motivation for being in band isn’t exactly revelatory, but it’s solid and lends some good personal stakes that can carry the rest of this season as long as it can blend in well with the other subplots.
