1st episode: People talk and then something happens. Animation is pretty good.

2nd episode: People talk and then something happens. Animation gets significantly worse.

3rd episode: People talk and then something happens. Animation gets even worse.

4th episode: People talk and then something happens. Animation gets even worse.

Final episode: People talk, something happens, and it’s one of the stupidest things to ever happen in anime this year. Animation is complete garbage by this point.

That’s pretty much my impression of Tokyo ESP. What kills me about the show is that it had all the right ingredients to be an entertaining superhero show, but not only did it fail to glue them altogether, I don’t think the glue existed to begin with. It’s pretty much the kind of fiction I hate the most: everything just sort of happens with no sense of flow or importance to anything going on and you totally forget what happened as soon as you finish watching it. It happened with the Devil Survivor 2 anime, and it happened with Tokyo ESP as well.

Fuck this show, fuck Xebec for screwing things up, and fuck the Ferguson police for completely unrelated reasons.

  1. There might be something wrong with the author, but I don’t even care enough to find what he does wrong. Ga-rei manga had serious issues, Ga-rei anime I couldn’t finish, Tokyo ESP I didn’t even feel like starting. Well, shit.

PS. No, fuck the Ferguson rioters. Because marry christmas, ho, ho, ho.

  2. I, too, was disappointed in this anime. I mean, the first episode was awesome with great-looking fights. However, by the end, the fights were very boring and lackluster. That was my main gripe with this show. How do you make a story about humans with superpowers fail so hard?

Another thing; the riot police officers that fought Minami(the sword-wielding esper girl) in the first episode never appeared again. So much for showing humans who could hold their own against espers.
