Short Summary: After Pee Wee Herman’s bike gets stolen, he embarks on a cross-country road trip in order to get it back.
Unlike Sesame Street and The Muppets, I never grew up with Pee Wee. This is probably the reason why I can’t get into his version of the whole “road trip” thing that was really popular during the 80s the same way I can buy into the former two’s versions despite Pee Wee’s adventure being crazier in all the right ways (well actually, I like it more than The Muppet Movie). If I had seen his stuff during the 90s or something, I’d probably be into it more. Despite that handicap though, Pee Wee’s Big Adventure is still a pretty great movie. With Tim Burton’s trademark weirdness back when he was actually good and Pee Wee Herman’s own eccentricity, along with a hilarious ending that rivals Blazing Saddles in terms of meta-oddballness, it’s a fun road trip film that’s as funny as it’s weird. And Pee Wee Herman is one weird guy.
Verdict: I’d say it’s worth watching at least once, even if you’re not a fan of Pee Wee.
