Okay, I actually started watching new stuff today. Let’s start with Tokyo Ghoul.
I’ve seen a lot of people praise the manga for this beforehand, and I also saw people praising the first episode before I got to it myself. Now that I’ve seen it, all I can say is “why?”. Things just happened without any sense of importance or urgency, and the violence is lacking in style despite all the bloodiness. The animation is decent, sure, but the delivery is so dry that I struggled to pay attention. On top of that, what actually happens is completely standard and predictable, which wouldn’t be much of a problem if there was some Sidonia-like atmosphere, but there’s none. Despite all the (rushed) events happening on screen, I just didn’t care what was going on.
I’ll give it some more time, but Boogiepop Phantom’s presentation was easier to swallow than this. This is more like that godawful Daredevil film than anything else.
Next…well actually that’s all I watched so far. Only other things that got released to my knowledge was Glasslip and Argovellon. I’m not into highschool dramas, let alone ones made by PA Works, so I didn’t bother with the former. From what I heard, less things happened in the first episode than the premiere of Free’s second season, but I have no interest in confirming that for myself. As for the latter, I tried watching the first episode, but the soldier stuff annoyed me and I stopped watching a minute in.
Oh yeah, there was Locodol. Meh.
